Ini pengalaman pertama saya mengantar orangtua berobat selama tiga hari di pulau Penang. Rumah sakit yang dituju adalah Island Hospital di 308, Macalister Road, 10450, Penang. Tiga hari sebelum keberangkatan, saya sudah email ke Marketing Service Island Hospital untuk penjemputan di Bandara , Penang International Airport, sebagai service gratis ongkos taxi lebih kurang 40 RM dengan kurs IDR 3,425 saat itu. Namun sebelumnya , mereka minta diemail informasi data pasien seperti full name , passport no. of patients, date & time arrival, flight number termasuk data keluarga yang mengantarkan, dst. Dengan catatan, toleransi waktu driver menunggu hanya satu jam setelah jadwal ketibaan di bandara. Selain itu, saya juga email ke customer service untuk menanyakan dokter/ consultant yang dituju. Apabila belum pernah konsultasi sebelumnya, nama dokter/consultants bisa dilihat di website Saat kami tiba, Senin,26/08/2013, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Assoc. Prof. Mr Oh Kim Soon , dokter yang ingin ditemui Ibu saya ,sedang ada jadwal operasi. Sedangkan Rabu sampai minggu depannya, beliau ada workshop keluar kota. Berarti hanya Selasa, waktu yang tersisa untuk konsultasi dengan beliau. Klinik dokter dibuka mulai Senin-Jum’at dan Sabtu. Namun nomor antrian dan pendaftaran bisa diambil sebelum klinik buka karena pasien akan dilayani berdasarkan nomor antrian consultation is based on first come first serve basis begitu headline di balasan email yang saya terima. Nomer antrian tercantum di papan digital yang terletak di atas pintu setiap klinik, begitu juga di setiap loket pendaftaran, pharmacy apotik dan cashier pembayaranagar kita bisa check setiap saat agar tidak kelewatan kalau tidak harus diulang keesokan harinya. Proses pelayanan di Island Hospital , sangat tertib dengan sistem antrian. Hanya saja karena pasiennya yang kebanyakan warga Indonesia sangat banyak sehingga antrian menjadi sangat panjang. Dokter biasanya mengajurkan tes lab untuk analisa lebih lanjut. Misalnya Ibu saya yang mengalami artritis dan osteoporosis diminta untuk pemeriksaan X-ray, kemudian diberikan penjelasan berdasarkan hasil X-ray dan antisipasi yang bisa dilakukan kemudian diresepkan obat yang disesuaikan dosisnya dengan kondisi beliau. Saat itu , ada paket i Health Executive Screening seharga RM 600 dan hasilnya bisa dikonsultasikan dengan dokter/consultant yang kita pilih atau direkomendasikan oleh hospital. Pasien diminta untuk puasa 10 jam sebelum pemeriksaan. Fasilitas lainnya yang ada di hospital ini adalah cafetaria dengan menu makanan yang beragam termasuk buah yang sudah di potong dan pastry. Bakery juga tersedia di dekat pintu masuk dekat registration desk namun buka setengah hari saja. Info lainnya , Bakery yang ada di Penang Adventist Hospital jalan Burma, terletak tidak jauh dari Island Hospital ,menjual roti gandum dengan variasi yang lebih banyak. Kartu Telepon lokal juga bisa dibeli di Kios kecil yang ada di sebelah kiri pintu masuk hospital. Kios tersebut juga menjual aneka snack dan minuman. Money changer terdapat di dalam hospital ini ,di dekat Pharmacy apotik. Selain itu, Mushola juga tersedia di sebelah kanan dari pintu masuk ke arah parkiran di belakang hospital. Mushola praying room terpisah untuk wanita dan pria dan tersedia tempat wudhu di dalamnya namun tidak ada toilet. AC dan lampu didalamnya tetap menyala dan juga terdapat colokan electrical plug’ yang bisa digunakan untuk nge-charge handphone karena di dalam hospital tidak banyak terlihat . Penginapan seperti apartment,hostel hingga hotel tersedia di daerah pulau Tikus karena lokasinya berdekatan dengan banyak rumah sakit swasta seperti Penang Adventis Hospital, Gleaneagles Hospital, Loh Guan Lye Hospital dan Island Hospital. Infonya bisa dilihat di situs penginapan atau datang langsung ke lokasi seperti di jalan Burma terdapat kuil Thailand yang besar di wilayah tersebut, salah satunya Hostel Burmahtel yang menawarkan kamar dari harga RM 50 hingga RM 100 atau check di situsnya . Sedangkan tipe apartment juga bisa dikunjungi di jalan Kelawai , Mutiara Gurney , 15 Lorong Kelawai, 10250 yang masih berada di kawasan Pulau Tikus. Sewaktu berangkat dari Medan, kami menggunakan Air Asia pukul dan tiba waktu Malaysia lebih cepat 1 jam dari WIB. Maskapai lainnya yang memiliki jadwal ke Penang adalah Lionair, Sriwijaya dan Firefly. Namun, hanya Air Asia yang memiliki jadwal tercepat dengan keberangkatan pagi . Dengan tiba pukul pagi di Penang, kami bisa langsung menuju hospital dan melakukan pendaftaran sebelum antrian bertambah panjang. Di hari ketiga di Penang, saat itu pukul dan kami sedang menunggu antrian konsultasi dengan seorang dokter setelah lunch break , pukul Tiba tiba saja, Ibu saya ingin kembali ke Medan hari itu juga namun kami belum memiliki tiket pulang. Di hospital tersedia flyer maskapai Malaysia , Firefly, yang memiliki penerbangan terakhir pukul Kami pun pergi menuju ticket office Firefly yang berada di Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak KOMTAR Penang Road, 10000 Georgetown, Penang. Kelebihannya, harga tiket Firefly sudah termasuk airport tax dan bagasi 20 kg. Selain itu check in time nya satu jam sebelum jadwal keberangkatan. Agak rush karena kami meninggalkan hospital pukul empat sore tapi kami berhasil tiba di bandara on time. Namun tidak disarankan untuk melakukan hal yang sama karena pukul empat adalah waktunya rush hour di Penang ditambah lagi banyaknya pabrik di sekitar lokasi menuju ke arah bandara yang mengakibatkan kemacetan hindari perjalanan di jam tersebut. Adios Penang, kunjungan singkat yang sangat berarti.

General visiting guidelines Our visitor policies have been carefully considered, and put in place to ensure the safety and highest quality of care for our patients and visitors. We seek your cooperation to follow these guidelines. Keep visits short as our patients need rest to recover. No more than two visitors should sit with patients at a time. This is to keep noise and disturbance at the ward to a minimum. If treatment is required for the patient, our nurses may ask visitors to leave. We seek your cooperation to do so. Children aged below 7 years are discouraged from visiting for health reasons. If children visit, they must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times. Be considerate and keep noise levels down. Be respectful of neighbouring patients’ need for quiet and privacy in a shared room. Silence mobile phones and speak softly on the phone to avoid disturbing patients. In the ICU, mobile phones are not permitted within two metres of any medical equipment. Smoking or drinking alcohol is not allowed on hospital premises. Switch your mobile phone to “SILENT” mode, and speak softly on the phone to avoid disturbing patients. In the ICU, mobile phones cannot be used within 2 metres of any medical equipment. Smoking or drinking alcohol is not allowed on hospital premises. Wash your hands often with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitisers which are available around the hospital to prevent the spread of germs. If you are ill, please postpone your visit. Intensive Care Units ICU visiting guidelines Our visitor policies have been carefully considered, and put in place to ensure the safety and highest quality of care for our patients and visitors. We seek your cooperation to follow these guidelines. Visitors to the ICU are limited to strictly two at a time unless special arrangements have been made with the patient’s nurse. Comfortable waiting areas are provided nearby. Only immediate family members or significant others are allowed to visit in the ICU. Mobile phones are not permitted within two metres of any medical equipment. Due to increased risk of infection, children under the age of 12 are not allowed to visit the ICU. Visits are limited to 10 -15 minutes to ensure patients get their optimum rest. After the discharge order is given, the ward nurses will notify the Inpatient Cashier Counter to process your final bill. Our ward nurses will inform you once your final bill is ready, and you can proceed to the Inpatient Cashier Counter located at the ground floor to settle the bill. If you have been prescribed any medication to take home, our staff at the Inpatient Cashier Counter will provide a Take Home Medication slip. For cases covered by corporate guarantee letters and insurance, our staff will request for the Final Guarantee Letter FGL from your company / insurance provider once the final bill is processed. You will need to wait for your company / insurance provider to process the FGL and send it to us before you can settle the final bill. Our staff will call you once the FGL is received.
